Qipao Styles and Features

When you think of a chinese qipao costume, certain distinct features come to mind. The most common of these features are:
- High neck line
- Closed collar
- Loose chest
- Fitted or hugging waist
- Long slits
These features may vary along with the style and the qipao can be short,medium, or long. Some styles have sleeves while others leave them out, making the qipao a very versatile dress and costume. Usually the qipao is worn by itself without many accessories. It is designed to show the female figure and move with the woman to exhibit their natural beauty and gracefulness. The qipao also creates the illusion of longer and slender legs enhancing the elegance and sexiness of the wearer.
The collar of the chinese qipao is tight fitted. The clasp or loop ofthe collar is a focus point of the qipao's design and style.
 The slits of the qipao dress are designed for easy movement and to show off the legs of the women creating an illusion of slenderness. Styles of slits vary from short slits, long slits, slits on the side or front, and one or two slits.   Qipaos have many designs ranging from asian style patterns, flowers, chinese dragons, animals, and more. They are usually made of fine materials like silk or satin. Most qipao dresses have sleeves but sleeveless qipaos are also popular. |
